Looking for a simple, no-fuss way to enjoy sweet potatoes? This recipe for sliced and baked sweet potatoes is as easy as it gets. With just olive oil and sea salt, the potatoes bake until golden, caramelized, and fork-tender the perfect balance of savoury and naturally sweet.

I love this method because it skips all the peeling, dicing, and extra prep work. Just slice your sweet potatoes in half, season, flip upside down and let the oven do the work. It’s a quick, healthy side dish you’ll want to add to your weeknight rotation.

Recipe + Directions: Sliced and Baked Sweet Potatoes

Ingredients

  • Sweet potatoes (as many as you’d like)
  • Olive oil
  • Sea salt

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Preheat the oven. Set your oven to 400°F (200°C).

2. Prepare the sweet potatoes. Wash thoroughly, then slice each potato in half lengthwise.

3. Season. Drizzle olive oil over the open face of each sweet potato half, then rub to coat evenly. Sprinkle with sea salt.

4. Bake. Place cut-side down on a baking sheet. Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until caramelized on the edges and tender in the centre.

5. Serve. Flip and enjoy warm as a side dish.

    Why You’ll Love This Recipe

    • Minimal prep: Just slice, season, and bake no peeling or dicing required.
    • Naturally sweet: Sweet potatoes caramelize in the oven, creating a rich flavour without extra ingredients.
    • Healthy & versatile: Packed with fibre, vitamin A, and antioxidants, sweet potatoes are a nutritious side that pairs with almost any meal.

Ways to Serve Sliced and Baked Sweet Potatoes

These baked sweet potatoes are delicious on their own, but you can also:

    • Add a scoop of Greek yogurt and chives for a creamy topping
    • Sprinkle with cinnamon for a sweeter twist
    • Top with black beans and salsa for a quick vegetarian meal
    • Pair with roasted chicken, salmon, or tofu for a balanced dinner

    Storage Tips

    • Fridge: Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
    • Reheat: Warm in the oven at 350°F for about 10 minutes, or in the microwave for 1–2 minutes.

FAQs: Sliced and Baked Sweet Potatoes

    1. Do I need to peel the sweet potatoes first?

Nope! The skin gets tender as it bakes and is full of fibre and nutrients. Just wash them well before slicing. Feel free once cooked to scoop out the inside from the skin!

    2. Can I use other seasonings besides salt?

Absolutely! Try garlic powder, smoked paprika, or a sprinkle of cinnamon for extra flavour.

    3. What’s the best way to tell if the sweet potatoes are done?

They should be golden and caramelized on the cut side, and a fork should easily slide through the flesh.

    4. Can I make these ahead of time?

Yes! Bake them in advance, store in the fridge, and reheat before serving. They make great meal prep sides.
