If you’re looking for a snack that’s crunchy, savoury, and high in fibre these crispy chickpeas in the air fryer are the answer. They’re packed with plant-based protein, fibre, and flavour plus they crisp up great in the air fryer.

This version uses a simple yet popular seasoning combo: garlic powder, paprika, and salt, tossed in a drizzle of olive oil. The result? A crunchy, smoky, and slightly garlicky snack that’s perfect for movie nights, lunchboxes, or topping salads.

  • Versatile → Snack on them plain or use as a crunchy topping for soups and salads.

Ingredients

  • 1 can (540 mL / 19 oz) chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • 3 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Dry the chickpeas. Drain and rinse the can of chickpeas. Then add the chickpeas to a baking sheet and pat dry thoroughly with a clean towel or paper towel. The drier they are, the crispier they’ll get.

2. Preheat the air fryer to 390°F (200°C).

3. Season. In a bowl, toss chickpeas with olive oil, garlic powder, paprika, and salt.

5. Cool and enjoy. Let them cool completely before storing. They'll crisp up even more as they cool.

    Tips for Success

    • Don’t overcrowd → Cook in batches if needed for best crunch.
    • Season after cooking if you want the spices to stay extra strong.
    • Make them extra crispy → Return cooled chickpeas to the air fryer for 2–3 minutes if they soften.

    Storage

Store cooled chickpeas in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. They taste best the day they’re made!

    Flavour Variations to Try

    • Spicy Chili Lime → Chili powder, cayenne, lime zest, and a squeeze of lime juice after cooking.
    • Herby Ranch → Dried dill, parsley, onion powder, and garlic powder.
    • Sweet & Cinnamon → Cinnamon, a touch of sugar (or maple syrup), and nutmeg.
    • Everything Bagel → Everything bagel seasoning mix + olive oil.

FAQs: Crispy Chickpeas In The Air Fryer

Can I use dried chickpeas instead of canned?

Yes—cook and cool them first before air frying.

Why are my chickpeas not crispy?

They likely weren’t dried enough before cooking, or the basket was too full.

    Can I change the flavours?

Absolutely! Try chili powder and lime, curry spice, or even a sweet cinnamon sugar version.
